Adenophora is a genus in the Bellflower family, with about 40 species. Adenophora confusa is known as Ladybells.

I recently came across an herbal raw material supplier that was offering Adenophora 10:1 Extract. I can find very little information published on adenephora, and I could not tell which species of adenophora was being offered by the supplier. The Chinese materia medica "Nanshasheng" (Radix Adenophorae) specified in Chinese Pharmacopoeia (1995) is the dried root of Adenophora tetraphylla (Thunb.) Fisch. or A. stricta Miq. (Fam. Campanulaceae). Results of an investigation on the botanical origin of the drug showed that the roots of 30 species (subspecies, varieties) of the genus Adenophora are also used in certain districts in China.

Isolation, purification and analysis of polysaccharides from Adenophora potaninii Korsh

Polysaccharides, AP-1 and AP-3, were obtained through extraction of the roots of Adenophora potaninii Korsh by hot water, followed by the isolation and purification by DEAE-cellulose and Sephadex G-200 column chromatography. Analysis of sugar composition showed that AP-1 is D-glucan, while AP-3 is composed of glucose, rhamnose, arabinose and glucuronic acid in the molar ratio of 5:1:1:3.

A needle crystal from the ethanol extract of Adenophora polyantha was isolated. Its structure was determined on the basis of its Elementary Analysis, IR, MS, 1HNMR, 13CNMR and chemical property and established as Isotaraxerone.

Q. Can adenophora herb be taken the same day as resveratrol supplement?
   A. We don't have enough experience with adenophora to know for sure, but, as a general rule, low dosages of most herbs and nutrients can be combined without problems.
