Daflon supplement benefit and side

Daflon is a natural oral medicine used in the treatment of venous disease, ie, chronic venous disease and hemorrhoids. It is a micronized purified flavonoid fraction containing 90% diosmin and 10% flavonoids expressed as Hesperidin.
Daflon for venous leg ulcer, chronic venous disease
Int Angiol. 2015. Analysis of the effects of micronised purified flavonoid fraction versus placebo on symptoms and quality of life in patients suffering from chronic venous disease: from a prospective randomised trial. The aim was to investigate the effect of Micronised Purified Flavonoid Fraction (MPFF; DaflonŽ 500mg, Laboratoires Servier, France) versus placebo, on pain and quality of life (QoL) in patients with symptomatic Chronic Venous Disease (CVD). A large randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study was conducted to evaluate treatment effects on vesperal oedema using water displacement volumetry (WDV). Other criteria were leg pain\heaviness assessed by visual analog scale (VAS) and quality of life questionnaire (CIVIQ-20). Study treatments were administered once a day for 4 months. The tolerance to the study treatments was assessed based on spontaneously reported adverse events, coded using the MedDRA dictionary. The present post-hoc analysis focuses on the subgroup of symptomatic patients having a baseline VAS >4 cm. The main study included 1137 patients classified C3 or C4 according to CEAP classification, with 592 in the symptomatic subgroup: 296 randomised to MPFF and 296 to placebo. Patient demographics and medical history were well-balanced at baseline. The main study was inconclusive on WDV for methodological reasons. In the symptomatic subgroup, Daflon treatment was associated with a greater reduction in VAS score than on placebo treatment and greater improvement in CIVIQ score. A 4-month treatment with MPFF significantly reduced leg pain/heaviness and improved QOL when compared to placebo and was well tolerated.

Daflon 500 mg and venous leg ulcer: new results from a
The objective of this study was to assess the effect of oral treatment with Daflon 500 mg (micronized purified flavonoid fraction [MPFF]) on leg ulcer healing. Five prospective, randomized, controlled studies in which 723 patients with venous ulcers were treated between 1996 and 2001 were identified. Conventional treatment (compression and local care) in addition to Daflon 500 mg 2 tablets daily was compared with conventional treatment plus placebo in two studies (n = 309), or with conventional treatment alone in three studies (n = 414). These results confirm that venous ulcer healing is accelerated by Daflon 500 mg treatment. Daflon 500 mg might be a useful adjunct to conventional therapy in large and longstanding ulcers that might be expected to heal slowly.
Angiology. 2005 Sep. Chronic venous insufficiency and the therapeutic effects of Daflon 500 mg. Chronic venous insufficiency is linked to venous hypertension and forces of shear stress on the endothelium. Venous hypertension depends upon two forces: the weight of a column of blood from the right atrium transmitted through the valveless vena cava and iliac veins to the femoral vein, and pressure generated by contracting skeletal muscles of the leg transmitted through failed perforating veins. When valve failure occurs in superficial axial veins and perforating veins, the venous pressure in the veins and venules of the skin and subcutaneous tissue is raised. The skin changes in chronic venous insufficiency are directly related to the severity of the venous hypertension. Also, pathologic changes in the valves are linked to venous hypertension and leukocyte infiltration and activation. It is hypothesized that acute venous pressure elevations cause a shift in the venous hemodynamics with changes in wall shear stress. This initiates the inflammatory cascade. Daflon 500 mg ameliorates the effects of chronic inflammation. In randomized trials, 60 days of therapy with Daflon at a dosage of 500 mg 2 tablets daily was effective, in addition to elastic compression, in accelerating venous ulcer healing. Because venous insufficiency is linked to venous hypertension and an inflammatory reaction, it appears that Daflon 500 mg 2 tablets daily shows a great potential for accomplishing blockade of the inflammatory cascade.
Daflon for hemorrhoids: a prospective, multi-centre observational study.

Daflon, a phlebotropic agent, is of proven efficacy in the treatment of various venous disorders. Although it has been tried in the treatment of hemorrhoids, its efficacy in alleviating various symptoms of hemorrhoid has not been assessed properly. The aim of this study was to confirm the efficacy of Daflon in the treatment of such symptoms. Two hundred and sixty eight patients presenting with hemorrhoids were recruited. After establishing the extent of their symptoms and determining the position, size and degree of haemorrhoids by proctoscopy, all patients were started on Daflon, four tablets per day, in two divided doses for four weeks. Patients were seen weekly during the study period and carefully questioned as regard to symptoms, and a proctoscopy was carried out. There was a statistically significant improvement in all haemorrhoidal symptoms (pain, heaviness, bleeding, pruritus and anal discharge) and in the proctoscopic appearance of the 'piles,' comparing baseline visit findings with the last visit four weeks after treatment with Daflon. Daflon has been shown to be effective in alleviating (variable degree) haemorrhoidal symptoms and improving the proctoscopic appearance of hemorrhoids. Therefore, it should be considered initially for patients presenting with haemorrhoidal symptoms.

Daflon side effects, safety issues
Q. From couple of days I am taking Daflon 500mg (two tablets daily) for pre-anal hematoma or hemorrhoid. I am feeling headache, nausea. I wanted to know whether the above side effects are due to the medication or some other reason?
A. I have not used Daflon in my practice yet and do not know the answer at this time but I will keep my eyes open for new research. You may wish to stop this supplement for a few days and restart with one tablet to see if the symptoms occur. Let us know how it goes and if the side effects occur with one Daflon tablet.
Hello, I'm from Florida USA. I'm looking for a medicine called Daflon. I been looking everywhere here in Florida but no one knows that medicine.
Hi, we are not aware of it being sold in the US, but we have not looked extensively.
My mother lives in Tehran, she is 87 years old, but in
good health, except she is in pain with hemorrhoids. She has been trying to
locate the medicine but she has not been successful. Where this drug is made? If
it is in Europe, I have friends there, which can purchase and send to her. Or
can I place order with a company in Europe and have them send it to her?
A google search reveals a company called Jandrugs dot com carries this product.
