Wrinkle - Anti Wrinkle Cream by Ray Sahelian, M.D.
Wrinkles are a natural result of the skin's loss of elasticity as it ages. Some behaviors can speed up the process and cause wrinkles prematurely. To reduce wrinkles around your eyes, sleep on you back rather than on your belly.
Wrinkle cream products - do they
work?
Luxury-price anti wrinkle products don't work any better than
drugstore brands, according to the study by Consumer Reports magazine, which
ranked Olay Regenerist, priced at about $19, as the most effective in reducing
wrinkles. But none of these products made a significant
difference in the skin's appearance. After 12 weeks the top-rated anti wrikle
products smoothed out some fine lines and wrinkles, but even the best performers
reduced the average depth of wrinkles by less than 10 percent, a change barely
visible to the naked eye. Consumer Reports, published by nonprofit consumer
research group Consumer Union, chose a sample of top-selling mass-market lines
for its study. The products were purchased in retail stores for between $19 and
$355. Each anti wrinkle cream was tested by 17 to 23 women, aged between 30 and 70.
The women used a test product on one side of their face and the lab's standard
moisturizer on the other side for comparison.
Retinoic acid wrinkle cream
Dr. Sahelian says: In my opinion the
prescription
medication based
anti wrinkle cream retinoic acid is quite effective.
To reduce the risk for wrinkles,
follow these suggestions:
Avoid prolonged, direct exposure to sunlight. If you do have to be out in the
sun, protect your skin with a hat and plenty of
sunscreen.
Don't use tanning beds.
To reduce lines around the eyes, sleep on your back rather than on your side
since sleeping on your side places your face on the pillow and tends to push
your cheeks toward your eyes causing lines to deepen.
Don't smoke or reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke..
Keep your skin well-moistened with creams and lotions.
Is a wrinkle cream a cosmetic or
a drug?
A wrinkle cream is still a cosmetic unless a claim is made that the mechanism
for wrinkle lessening is physiological. In other words, creams that moisten the
skin and cover wrinkles are cosmetics and not drugs. Botox, which has a
physiological reaction within the body, is a drug used for cosmetic purposes.
Botox danger for wrinkles
2008 - Botox and a similar injection for wrinkle treatment have caused 16 deaths
and other serious problems after the botulinum toxin spread inside the body.
Public Citizen asked U.S. authorities to require the strongest possible warning,
highlighted in a "black box," on Allergan Inc's Botox and Solstice Neuroscience
Inc's Myobloc.
